How long is the performance?

The performance lasts about 3 hours, including the intermission. It begins at 7:45 p.m. and ends no later than 11:00 p.m.

How are the seats arranged?

Seats in all sections are arranged in staggered rows to ensure the best possible view (even from the back rows).

Is there a break?

Yes, there is a 30-minute intermission about halfway through the performance. The food and beverage area is open during this time.

Are there catering facilities on the event site?

Start your evening at the opera on a delightful note. Starting at 6:00 p.m., a selection of food and beverages will be available to satisfy your appetite. A variety of meals, snacks, and drinks await you, both before the performance and during intermission.

Are glasses allowed on the seats?

No. Guests are asked to limit their consumption to the dining areas.

IS THERE A DRESS CODE?

There is no set dress code for the Vienna Opera Summer. However, please note that temperatures and weather conditions can vary depending on the day and time. We recommend bringing a light jacket or blanket to protect yourself from the cold, wind, and mosquitoes. If rain or severe weather is forecast, we advise bringing waterproof, warm clothing.

Are there any coupons?

Is there a program booklet?

Yes. A must-have for many opera-goers, the program offers insights into the performance, the cast, the production, and the creative minds behind the Vienna Opera Summer. Our staff at the venue will be happy to sell you a copy.

DO OUR PERFORMANCES TAKE PLACE REGARDLESS OF THE WEATHER?

The Vienna Opera Summer is an open-air event and generally takes place regardless of the weather, unless there is an official severe weather warning that prevents the performance from going on. In such a case, we would notify you via email, on our website, and on social media. In the event of changeable or inclement weather, delays, intermissions, and a resumption of the performance are possible.

What happens if an event is canceled due to severe weather?

Performances generally take place even in bad weather. If the organizer cancels an event due to severe weather, you will be notified immediately by email. Your ticket will be canceled and you will receive a refund. Separate rules apply to tickets for premieres on July 1, 2026.

How do I prepare for any kind of weather?

The Vienna Opera Summer takes place outdoors. Even in bad weather, we will do our best to hold every performance, provided that the safety of our guests and performers can be guaranteed. We advise our visitors to be prepared for all weather conditions: Please wear weatherproof and warm clothing as well as sturdy shoes, especially if the forecast calls for rain or cool temperatures.

GETTING HERE

How can I get here?

The Opernarena am Heumarkt (Lothringerstr. 22, 1030 Vienna) is easily accessible by public transportation.

The following stations are located in the immediate vicinity:

U4 Stadtpark subway station (2-minute walk)
Schwarzenbergplatz tram stop (Lines D, 2, and 71; 3-minute walk)
Vienna Mitte Landstraße Station (S-Bahn, U4, U3; a 15-minute walk along the City Park)

Where can I park?

We recommend using public transportation to get here. If you are arriving by car, there are public parking garages available in the area. Please be aware of the short-term parking zones, paid parking spaces, and no-stopping zones in the area.

How close to the start of the performance can I arrive?

Doors open until shortly before the performance begins at 7:45 p.m. We recommend arriving early (doors open at 6:00 p.m.) so you can enjoy the wonderful atmosphere of the Opera Arena beforehand.

If you arrive after the performance has started due to a delay, our staff will escort you to your seat.

TICKETS

Where can I buy tickets?

You can purchase tickets online at opernsommer.at/en as well as at select ticket outlets (well-known ticket offices in Vienna). Please note that fees may vary depending on the ticket office.

Only on opernsommer.at/en there are no additional fees!

How do I get my tickets?

After payment, you can download the tickets directly as a PDF. The tickets will also be sent by e-mail. We recommend that you check your spam folder.

What should I do if I haven't received my tickets?

After placing your order, please check your email inbox and spam folder, refresh your email inbox, and wait a moment. If that doesn't help, please contact us at support@opernsommer.at

Can I rebook or cancel my tickets?

Rebooking and cancellations are not possible. Your booking is irrevokable. Please alsways check that you have selected the correct performance date before finalizing your order.

What payment options are available?

You can pay with all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, etc.) as well as with a debit card (ATM card) that has a credit card function. There are several payment providers available to you.

Are there tickets for children and teenagers?

Children and teenagers are warmly welcome to the Vienna Opera Summer. Please note that the minimum age is five! We offer discounts on tickets in select categories for young opera fans. For more information, see “Are there any discounts?”

ARE THERE ANY DISCOUNTS?

Discounted tickets are available in categories A–E. You can purchase discounted tickets for school students, college students, apprentices, and people with disabilities (only with valid ID and registration in the online shop) on the website opernsommer.at. School students and university students (up to age 27) receive a 30% discount, and people with disabilities receive a 50% discount on regular ticket prices.

Discounts offered through partnerships (Vorteilsclub Wien, Radio Ö1, etc.) are available only for a limited time during the advance sale period.
