Thomas Weinhappel
Giorgio Germont
Thomas Weinhappel – a native of Austria and former member of the Vienna Boys' Choir – received the two highest-ranking opera prizes in 2017 for his lyrical Hamlet and impressed as Escamillo (Singapore 2016), Tarquinius (Ostrava 2018), Don Giovanni (Paris 2020) and Marcello (Vienna 2022).
Encouraged by Wagner specialist Stefan Mickisch, he used the enforced Corona break to develop from a lyric to a heroic baritone and to reinvent himself in roles such as Telramund, the Dutchman, Wotan, Kaspar, Pizarro, Jochanaan, and Mandryka. In 2023, he sang Escamillo (Baden), Wagner solo recitals in Paris, Beijing, and at the MuTh Vienna. He appeared as Posa at the Klosterneuburg Festival and then as Danilo in Beijing (NCPA). In 2024, he made his Wagner Festival debut at the Sofia State Opera as Telramund and sang Kaspar at the Eutin Festival (Germany), a role for which he had already received praise in Bremerhaven in 2022. His role debut as Scarpia in Baden followed in 2025.
