Ghazal Kazemi
Ghazal Kazemi began her vocal studies at the age of 15 at the music academy in her hometown of Tehran, Iran. In 2011, she continued her studies with Birgid Steinberger at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts. In 2015, she completed her bachelor's degree with distinction and subsequently earned a master's degree in opera singing.
While still a student, she performed several notable roles, including Ruggiero in Handel's Alcina (directed by Dmitry Bertman), Annio in Mozart's La clemenza di Tito, and Mother Goose in Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress. Other roles she sang include the title role in Puccini's Suor Angelica and the Sister in Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites. At the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, she sang the title role in scenes from Bizet's Carmen (directed by Beverly Blankenship).
As part of the Vienna Philharmonic Summer Academy, she performed as Cherubino in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro in 2017 and as Sesto in La clemenza di Tito in 2018 – both performances took place at the Vienna Konzerthaus and the Graz Musikverein. She was also a guest at the Kammeroper, where she performed in Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges and as Siebel in Gounod's Faust.
Between 2018 and 2022, Ghazal Kazemi was a permanent member of the Vienna Volksoper ensemble. During this time, she performed roles including Henry (Opera Ball), Second Lady (The Magic Flute), Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro), Sandman (Hansel and Gretel), Mercedes (Carmen), and Fyodor (Boris Godunov).
